COMMUNITY LED GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE / 2020
URBANIZATION OF YANGON: 1980 - 2020
Yangon is the most populous city in Myanmar as well as the financial and cultural capital. It has a projected population of over 10 million by 2030 and over 27 million by 2065. Extreme cases of sea level rise due to climate change are expected in this low-lying floodplain. Flood conditions will only be exacerbated by the intense development that is already occurring. In order to facilitate this rapid growth and mitigate its negative impact on the local ecosystem, urban interventions including green infrastructure and development of comprehensive sustainable land use plans are imperative.
This study was focused on Dala Township located in the southern area of Yangon.
95% OF DALA LAND IS LESS THAN 3 METERS ABOVE 2020 SEA LEVELS. DESPITE THIS, DEVELOPMENT CONTINUES UNABATED
